He has years of experience teaching students of varied needs, and can adapt for those with unique learning challenges. Jim frequently teaches those with language and cultural barriers which can interfere with people obtaining a driver’s license, and helps them to achieve their goals!
The classroom portion of the course is 4 days of mixed work, lectures, videos, and discussions following the provincial curriculum. Small class sizes ensure that there is lots of one-on-one student-teacher interaction!
In the in-car lessons, simple step-by-step instructions are clear and straightforward, yet detailed enough to make it easy to learn the skill.

Driving Certificate Course
All licensed Nova Scotia driving schools are required to follow the same teaching curriculum which involves 25 hours of classroom driving theory and 10 hours of in car instruction.

ABOUT JIM
Jim Nelson has over 40 years of driving experience, and has personally driven over 2.5 MILLION kilometres in that time!
He has been teaching driving for the past 11 years, 6 of those including classroom teaching. In his former role before opening
his own school, Jim was the Chief In-Car Driving Instructor at Apple Valley Driving School. Jim’s students have a 95% pass rate
on the first try!
